Digital Distribution #1
Digital Distrubution refers to how a film or movie reaches its audience. This could be were the movie can be viewed or when it is accessible to the audiences. Films are being distributed in several different digital platforms, including VOD, DOWNLOAD, STREAM, and DVD/BLURAY. Films rely heavily on their first couple weekends of airing their product, as 98% of films make 95% of their theater sales in the first 3 weekends (17 days) in the theater. Currently films will be released for streaming 90 days after their theatrical release. For smaller films, the common technique is to spend more on marketing then filming, which allows the film to have a greater revenue. Overall, the film's marketing should relay on niche and genre, to gain the most revenue possible.
For our film, since it had a fairly small budget, we would utilize methods such as releasing the film during small festivals, and building up a fan base. The fan base would be essential in publishing our film, as awareness about it would be spread. Furthermore, we would rent out a theater, and play our film, selling the tickets directly through ourselves. This would allow use to gain revenue from our family and friends, while playing our short film on a big screen. Overall, we would utilize the methods for low budget films, hopefully spreading awareness about our film and building a strong fan base.
