Project Selection- Magazine

Print journalism focuses mainly on the reporter aspect of media studies. This makes print journalism appealing, as ideas and topics can be easily presented. This type of journalism uses visual appeal to capture the minds of its audiences. Moreover, print journalism revolves around one topic or lifestyle to maximize sales. In print journalism timing and relevance is imperative, as it is shown in All the President's Men. In this film the article is rushed, in hopes of beating the other journalists in the field. During magazine analysis, done in class, I learned that each issue of a magazine shares an overall theme. For example, in Time magazine each issue presents the same logo towards the top of the cover. This allows for consistency throughout the company brand. Overall, magazine articles focus on reporting issues and events throughout the world. This causes magazines to be mostly current events with the overlay of advertisements.
Furthermore, a magazine project would utilize my Microsoft and Adobe Photoshop certification. Ultimately, this would allow me to easily edit and create the format for each issue. In blog examples of magazines that were shown during class, the format was essential to a wonderful final project. I have also taken Journalism 1 during my Sophomore year. During this course, I wrote many articles and reports on current events; which results in my strong reporting and article writing skills. This would be ideal for a magazine project. Although I have many skill sets on aspects of a magazine, I think it would limit my creativity. It would also become a challenge to create a exciting and relevant print.
